Man Accused of Sword Attack on Transgender Woman in Pittsburgh Hotel

A man has been accused of attacking a transgender woman with a sword early Thursday morning at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Pittsburgh. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m., where the victim, a man living as a woman, was found bloodied and calling for help in the hotel lobby, according to a report by WTAE.

Upon arrival, police discovered blood on the floor and walls of the fifth floor and found the victim with a severe laceration to his hand. The victim later sought medical attention independently. Witnesses indicated that the parties involved were in Pittsburgh for the Anthrocon Convention, a major furry convention celebrating anthropomorphic art and culture.

According to a witness, 26-year-old Jake O’Leary of Greenville, South Carolina, invited the victim and others to stay with him at the hotel. After going to bed, O’Leary allegedly woke up, grabbed a sword, and began swinging it while shouting phrases implying disapproval from a religious perspective. This attack led to significant injury for one victim, who sustained deep cuts and tissue damage. Despite the injuries, the victim was able to transport himself to the hospital.

Law enforcement reported that the suspect also suffered a facial injury during the altercation, and he has since been charged with aggravated assault. This incident follows other notable sword-related attacks in recent years, raising concerns about the use of such weapons in violent disputes.
