The annual Anthrocon convention, held in Pittsburgh from July 4-7, has made a significant impact on local charities, particularly benefiting senior dogs through a record-breaking donation. This year, attendees raised over $100,000 for Gray Paws Sanctuary, which specializes in fostering and caring for senior dogs, marking a substantial increase from last year’s contribution of $52,000 to the Rabbit Wranglers.
Gray Paws Sanctuary, celebrating its 10th anniversary, was founded by Darla Poole-Brescia and Joe Brescia to provide a nurturing environment for senior dogs. They have designed their facilities to accommodate the needs of these animals, having even moved to a single-story home to facilitate easier movement for the dogs.
At the event, Poole-Brescia expressed gratitude for the community’s support, highlighting the kindness and commitment of participants towards the charity. Gray Paws Sanctuary offers various programs, including a Sanctuary program for direct care, a Forever Foster Care – Medical Coverage Program, and the LOYAL Program to help owners keep their dogs healthy at home.
This year’s Anthrocon attracted a record attendance of 17,639, with 3,371 participants in the Fursuit Parade, showcasing the growing popularity of the convention. Since its inception in 1997, the event has raised over $547,000 for various charities.
