A group of friendly anthropomorphic characters, known as “furries,” made a splash in Albany’s CBD and landmarks on Sunday, attracting attention with their brightly colored costumes and zest for life. The Advertiser learned about the furry fandom from a member of Albany’s furry community, who explained the thriving subculture in WA and the upcoming Furwag convention and charity fundraiser in October. Mitch, who has been part of the furry scene for seven years, shared how he designed a custom-made $3500 fur suit to embody his character Boost. The group’s first fur suit outing in Albany was met with positive reactions from residents, with people honking, kids staring, and individuals of all ages wanting hugs. Mitch expressed the joy of making people smile and brightening their day with the unexpected presence of furries.
